What is the Step Up Scholarship?

The Family Empowerment Scholarship (FES) is a Florida state scholarship program that allows families to access funds for additional educational services. Step Up for Students administers these scholarships.

FES-UA

For students with unique abilities (autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, rare diseases). Children ages 3 to 22 with required diagnosis.

FES-EO

For low and middle-income families. Covers transportation to preferred public schools or help with educational materials.

In 2021, more than 74,000 students participated in the program. About 50% of families in Florida qualified according to current income guidelines.

Who Qualifies?

The FES-UA program is open to students between 3 and 22 years old with a qualifying disability. An official diagnosis is required.

Qualifying conditions include:

  • Autism
  • ADHD (Attention deficit and hyperactivity)
  • Learning disabilities (dyslexia, language difficulty)
  • Rare diseases
  • High-risk, convalescent, or hospitalized students

Not sure if your child qualifies?
When in doubt, you can always apply. Many families discover that their children qualify when it wasn't their initial expectation.
